Swan 57/024

Swan 57 Hull #024 Aliunde - year : 1979 - hull colour :White

An exciting project, requiring a new owner!
I do not think that the Nautor Swan 57 needs an introduction to the sailing world, nor do we need to acknowledge its place in the bluewater cruising and racing world, where it is necessary to introduce this vessel is her story.

This Hull was first commissioned by Leopoldo Pirelli, as in Pirelli Tires. Hull 023. This hull has a custom interior layout which has the galley forward and along the port hull, swapping a double cabin for the location of the galley. Also, there is no cabin access from the cockpit, which provides excellent deck space and sailability on the “flybridge”. The current owner is the third owner.

In 2018 - a young couple set out to start a business that would: instruct, explore & inspire - sailors, non-sailors, and eager adventurers around the world. It was a vision to not re-invent what it meant to go on sailing adventures, but certainly was motivated to push the boundaries of the status quo. The itinerary was intended to give access to people without a boat and skills to see the world in a unique and exciting way. Due to the ambitious program, the business needed an ambitious boat for the task. Upon finding the perfect bluewater cruiser, the boat definitely needed work, but felt the 40 year old boat was worth every drip of sweat. All mechanical and electrical equipment was both out of date, and in poor condition. The deck was weathered and worn, and paint was out of date, winches hadn’t been serviced, everything had felt like it was stuck in 1979. So, the couple (albeit foolishly) set out to restore this iconic bluewater sailing yacht.

As this project was equally about exploring with guests and providing a particular lifestyle for the couple, many decisions were made to best fit the demands of the project, which now in the process of selling may only be seen as sacrilege when speaking about the classic appeal of these 70s era Nautor Swan’s. Interior walls painted white for decreased glare and heat reduction when in near equatorial weather zones, also a fresh update to an older aesthetic. A new non ablative hull coating was tediously prepared and applied to limit haul out periods, and a reduction of cuprous oxide into the waterways. Generator removed in exchange for solar and hydrogeneration (not installed) to extend self-sufficiency when sailing into isolated areas. Etc...

Unfortunately, the project died before we could get the boat back in the water. The relationship abruptly ended, which left me with a boat that had not completed its refit, and a business plan that could no longer exist. Unfortunately this also timed exactly when the world was shut down due to the pandemic. Sadly the project was never completed. The boat has sat on the hard in notable shipyard with the rig unstepped, and a shrink wrap tent over the boat since. It was a very sad course of events and I want this wonderful vessel to find a new home. She deserves to have her project seen through to the end and finally refloated.

I will happily discuss price and detail way more information as required. If interested, don't hesitate to reach out for more information about the refit, both completed and outstanding. I have plenty of documentation and info on all the work that was done.

Thanks for your interest. Hope to hear from you soon.
