Shangri-La 3 is hull number 115 of a total 116 built. Second owner since 1992. She is a one of a kind Swan 38. On top of the regular maintenance with the best materials and products, numerous improvements make her unique.
Based on calculations of Lars Strom the keel has been lengthened to 2.40 meter with 400 kg additional lead and the rudder has had 20 cm added. This results in a terrific upwind performance pushing the hull punching through the waves with brutal force. In a direct comparison with an other Swan 38 tall rig the differences in speed, stability and degrees close-hauled were astonishing. Even with much more modern designs as a Salona 40, X-yacht and other 40+ feet, Shangri-La 3 is on par or pointing higher and faster.
Shangri-La 3 is equipped with a Leisurefurl boom, rod rigging with integrated Navtec adjuster, D4 De Vries kevlar laminated fully battened mainsail, 3DL North 140% genua and 98% high-aspect. For the more competitive sailor the rig is reversible to the OEM rig. OEM boom and IMS North 3DL drop mainsail are included.
Lewmar electric winches, 2 x 64ST foresail, 30ST mainsail and 14CST Leisurefurl. Forestay Bamar electric furl. This rig is utterly suitable for sailing single-handed.
Shangri-La 3 is still powered by the original Bukh 20 hp diesel which has been extensively serviced every year. This engine has proven to be ultimately reliable and has all these years been working flawlessly without any hesitation or interruption. Complete revision of the drive shaft / clutch with new propeller shaft and engine mounts.
Autohelm (now Raymarine) lineair drive with new Raymarine Evolution Sail 200 and Raymarine ST6001 Smart pilot display system.
Shangri-La 3 comes with a Barac refridgerator, Spartite mast/deck seal, Sealock toilet, running rigging 2008, Nauticatch help with mooring, de-icer scanship, Whale automatic bilgepump, Victron Phoenix battery charger, Dancom RT925 marifoon, Navstar decca navigation and many more. The Webasto heating is NOT working.
No expenses have been spared. The investments in improving the ship and additional equipment are close to 100.000 Euros.
