Swan 43/008Swan 43 Hull #08 Freya - year : 1969 - hull colour :dark blue
Freya - was built in 1969 and delivered to Oxford, Maryland. She raced in a Bermuda Race and a few others under the name of Harpoon. I do not know what happened until the late 1980s when her hull was extensively pealed and rebuilt with solid vinylester by the Lenox Company in Rock Hall, Maryland. Vinylester has about 10 times the bond strength of polyester resin and is often used as a water barrier. She was Dave Lenox’s personal boat for about five years. He sold her to Tom Ralph who took her to Sorrento, Maine. Tom put in a new Perkins 4-108 diesel and in the late 90s, new teak decks by Teak Decking Systems. A beautiful job!
I bought her in 1999 and added a 17” feathering three blade J Prop and self-tailing Anderson 58s (they are over sized) back at the helm. Either I at the helm or someone forward of the wheel can handle the jib. I added a new 120% genoa on the roller fuller, rebuilt the gas stove, recovered the berths and settees in the main cabin, new dodger (5 years ago) and most recently, a new Simrad radar/chart plotter. The engine crankcase oil was recently analyzed and the lab pronounced the engine in good shape internally. It starts easily.
She has not had a lot of use recently since I have been building my house here in Harpswell (I am my own architect, carpenter and chief slave). I feel that I need a boat that I can easily single hand and I no longer have to live on it.
She needs paint and some toe rail repair.
I love her. If you are interested, you better be good to her.
I am asking $90,000 US.Charles L. Hancock
