Holding Tank in Swan 38
I need to install a holding tank into our Swan 38 as we will be going to Holland this summer.
Any advice, photos etc. would be much appreciated
Many thanks

Hi Tom,

"This Old Boat" by Don Casey has a great discussion about heads, plumbing and how to set up a holding tank.  I would highly recommend this book for this and all things related to old boat repair/upgrade.

Hi Tom,

If I can get to my boat this weekend, I will send to you a picture of my holding tank which is installed under the front port berth. Otherwise it will be in about 10 days

Tim,

We put holding tanks in our 44 two years ago for a similar reason.  We used tektank to make some custom shaped tanks for us.  The valves were from them as well, but the hoses came from Vetus and the through deck fittings and pumps we sourced online.

Tektank have some useful system diagams for tanks above/below the waterline.  Just for fun we have one of each; but slightly modified from their system drawings.

We made mock ups of the tanks in wood frames to ensure sizing and that they would fit through the companion way, before submitting drawings to tektank.

Have fun and enjoy Holland.

Adrian

Hi Tom,

Another thought is a composting head. No holding tanks, no hoses, nothing to break and, from reading, no smell.
