AwlGrip vs. Gelcoat

Dear Friends,

last summer I scratched Vanessa's starboard side (nothing serious but cosmetically not very nice!), so I decided to give her a refresh,  and overhaul all deck hardware.

In a few weeks, after a veeeeeeery long winter on the shed, she will be ready to go back into the water, I really can't wait to sail her again.

Here she is after new paint. I know original gelcoat is far better than AwlGrip, but at least on the deck to get a new gelcoat is too difficult to be applied (and in my shipyard there is a genius working with AwlGrip, so...!)

So beautiful, well done Matteo! Was it done with "traditional" harder polyester urethane resin based AwlGrip or softer but more easily repairable 2000 version?

Matteo,

Did you use the same Awlgrip color on Vanessa as you did on Only You? I believe you mentioned in previous posts you used Insignia White for Only You... I am curious if you kept the same color or went with a different one when you had Vanessa painted.

 

I am doing new Awlgrip non-skiid decks on Inspiration (swan 38) and trying to decide on color. (we are not painting the hull as it's original gelcoat is still in great shape).

 

Any advice/wisdom you can share is always appreciated!

Dear Nathan,

no, on Only You I had the blue stripe painted with Blue Marlin, and on Vanessa it's Navy Blue, and Insigna White for both (actually the hull on Only You was Jotun 2000 gelcoat).

Actually AwlCraft 2000 and not AwlGrip.
