Swan 38 Propeller change

Dear 38 owners, I am getting to know my own Swan 38. I would like some reccomendations for a replacement for the truely strange Kiwi prop that is fitted to my boat. The epic prop walk is my prime concern followed by the cavitation noise underway.

Dear Chris,

congratulation for your "new" S&S Swan 38 Spirit!

The clearence on the S&S Swan 38 is very thin, when I changed the prop on my 38/067 Only You, under Lars' suggestion, I opted for a three blade feathering Max Prop 15" (it is a custom made size, but at Max Prop they are extremely helpful and can do it with no extra cost), which is smaller than the original 16", and the clearance was therefore slightly impruved, with my satisfaction re. noise/vibration.

I don't have any experience with Kiwi.

Fair winds!

Congratulations, Chris!

I changed Infants (38/014) propeller for Flex-O-Fold 16 x 14 RH 3 13 years ago, and we have been very satisfied. Especially power towards heavy wind and reversing were much improved, compared to the old two-blade propeller. There is also clearly  less propwalk and noise. A few millimetres were ground from the hull above the propeller to have the clearance some 15-20 mm.

Enjoy your magnificent boat!

Thanks, I am presetly looking at a Gori prop , clearance over 16 will be an issue, I have a Sole mini 33 2.5-1 gear so does require a big prop plus the shaft is pushed aft slightly on the standard, hopefully someone is running something close to this spec.

Dear Chris,

I forgot to mention that Infants engine is Bukh DV 24 ME with gear-ratio 3.00 fwd and 2.36 rev.

Dear Chris,

I am not able to compare it with different props, as I just had this. What I can tell you is it is a very good propeller, and the after market service is extremely good

Fair winds!

A bit late but my VARIPROP , 4 blade works well and it is easy to adjust the pitch.
