sailing single handed

Hi Guys. I have a swan 411 and I need to sail it back to Europe from the Carribean .

My question is: can a Swan 411 be sailed single handed? If so, what modification needs to be done to the rigging without losing too much of its originality?

Hi Kaz,

I have been having the same question, what do i need to change in my swan 40 for single handed and long passages.

Having the winches on the mast or close to the mast is not ideal as it will force the sailor to go out of the cockpit.

But It can be minimize with good safety measures. The number one risk you need to avoid in MOB.

Obviously windvane is a must but you need to have a very reliable steering system. (Auto pilot will be your most important crew member)

On the navigation side, the alarmistic (AIS) must be working very well. Do not rely only on AIS. I belive to have a modern radar is a must for other non identified objects and head weather.

This is something that I think about. If you want to talk and think further on this send me a wahtsaap. +351 916968169
