Max headsail size on 411 Hi everyone - I was looking at the photos for the 411 on our favorite website. There is a stern shot of the Oracabessa, and in the picture, the headsail appears ENORMOUS - maybe it is an optical illusion, but it made me wonder (since I might be buying some sails this winter) what is the maximum genoa you could fly on this boat? 165? 200? Just wondering what people have tried. My boat came with a brand new North bag system gennaker, and what a nice sail to fly! very easy, and great boost in light air - so easy to launch and retrieve - might make me never sail a conventional spinnaker again, but I am only kidding because I do like the conventional type, even if a little more trouble..... Thanks, Geoff in WI USA #41, Corazon |

Geoff, try flying your crusing chute on a pole to give you even greater angles and control. Even better than a spinnaker. John Swan 411 "Avista" |

John Just saw your note today, thanks - will try it. Was going to buy a std spinnaker this winter - maybe I should buy a second gennaker - what do you think? Geoff |

Geoff, I have got to an age where spinnackers are too hard work. I mainly cruise and with the poled out crusing chute its enough for me. I have just fitted a furling staysail which also makes life very easy for a short handed crew of old guys. The right sail wardrobe is the one that works for your type of sailing and sailing plans.
