Inside fittings for Swan 38

We have just initiated some small repairs inside our SWAN 38 "Jacaranda". Among other things we would like to replace the rubber part of the step protection fittings (6 pieces) placed on the steps leading from the cockpit to the saloon - please see the picture.

Any ideas about a supplier ?

Best regards Jorgen

Dear Jorgen

they are not yet available. I am planning to have them replaced by teak pieces as I have seen onboard S&S Swan 43 Espalmador.
I will do this during the winter and'll post some pictures later on.

Fair winds!

Dear Jörgen
If you google Perko step plates you will find similar ones, but it appears they are not identical. This tip originally came from Hiro.
For Matteo's interpretation I would suggest that some anti-slip powder is mixed into the last varnish layer.
Best regards

Dear Jorgen
I had the same problem. After doing a lot of research as per the above contacts etc, I put all 6 treads in a bucket of water with some bleach for 24 hours. I then got some CIF cleaner and used a stiff brush. The treads came up sparkling white - even though they are a little brittle at the edges. Once they are put back in the metal frames they will look almost like new!

Dear Jorgen,

it took me a couple of years (...) but I finally did it, and I am very pleased with the result.

What was difficult, believe it or not, was to find the chromed screws, but I found a shop which had a few in stock from the Seventies, and they were enough for my project!

Beautiful job from M.S. !
You can observe the varnished steps, better than the original.
Very well done. These step plates from Perko might be distributed in Italy from Tessilmare, hereunder the link:

Dear all,
Thank you very much for advises. I used the method described by Tom with a good result, but after having seen the outcome of MS' work, we will probably follow his good example.
Best regards
Jorgen

As I liked to keep the old bronze fittings which did not have visible fastenings this is what I did in my 411.
I replicated the rubber pads by glueing three different flexible layers therefore obtaining the original shape that matches exactly the fitting. Anybody who dismantled them knows that the shape is not simple but three layers can do the job. I made the upper visible layer with Treadmaster™ and the lower layers with rubber sheets of the appropriate thickness.
Three plexiglass templates helped me cut the layers and have reproducible shapes. For glueing I used the bronze fitting itself to position correctly the layers under a homemade press. The new pad can be extracted/inserted by bending it as the original.
I reckon they are not as the original but I hope you agree that they are pretty close at least in the intention.

Dear Daniel,

I like them very much!

It is a pity I did not think before to ask you, because otherwise you would have six more fittings to make!

So, now we know you are very good not only fixing Neco autopilots and B&G instruments, but even to make rubber fittings...prepare to be asked by many Members to prepare some!
