Do you mean that the new alternator can give different rpm's? 
And perhaps that I am not stupid?

Some rpm counters take their input from the alternator, and therefore the recommendation is to check the reading with a portable unit

Hi Jan and Lars,

My rev counter was not very precize. In the end used someting like this. Measurement at external flywheel and main shaft.
