Dear all,

Here my notes after a meeting with Professor on our Infant in May 2007:

Varnishing the interior of a Swan ad modum Lars Ström.
Interior varnishing involves applying a glossy varnish that is subsequently dulled to achieve a matte finish. The varnish used is TEKNODUR 0290, a two-pack polyurethane topcoat with an aliphatic isocyanate resin hardener. Prior to applying a hard coating of this type, it is essential to remove any existing layer of soft varnish.

After the surface is properly prepared.
-
Apply a quite heavy layer of varnish. Repeat this after 1-2 days.

Proceed with matting after allowing the varnish to cure for at least 2–3 days.
- Sand evenly with P240 sandpaper.
- Matte with a scouring pad “very fine” along the grain.
- Polish with fine steel wool along the grain.
- Apply teak oil with a foam sponge.
-
After a few minutes, wipe off excess oil using cleaning cotton.

Wiping with teak oil once a year is recommended.
I have used this method since 2007. It is not difficult, and it results in a silky and durable surface.

Looking forward to spring,

Jyrki, Infant (38/014)
