Rebuilding forehatch Swan 38?

Upwind or in heavier seas the  forehatch of Jan Van Blois 38/29 is leaking. This appears to be because of deterioratio of the woodwork , especially the joints. Complete removal and rebuilding seems to be a complicated job.

Who has seen the same problem, and any advice?

Thnx,

Rene van den Dorpel

Dear Vandendorpel,

I had the same problem, and changed it with a new Goiot.

Dear René,

The front hatch was for me a symbol of the S&S.  When we did our refit we were able to change all worn out pièces of wood.  This is easy as every part can be dismantled and copied.  I had then the problem of the joint.  Nautor does not provide this joint anymore.  After a some research and after looking at this wonderfull site I found a "P" shape joint resistant to UV.

You will see on these picture how I put it.  Unfortunatelly I had to buy 20 meter so I have here at home around 16 meter left.

By the way the design of the hatch is so good that we sailed one year without the joint and still did not get any water inside.

This hatch system is just great.
