Vinyl trim
Hello all,
We are getting to the point of putting the under deck lining back, hopefully in the next month or two.
It has gone a quite yellow over the years and it might be nice to clean it while we have it out of the boat. Has anyone got any tips?
Also I saw on one post the the professor mentioned the heat shield above the stove might be asbestos? How would I tell? And if I was to replace it what would be a good alternative?
Thanks as always!

Hi Fletch,

I have removed all of the headliner in my boat as a by-product of deck reparation.  Here is what I have in mind for my boat.

Using 1/4 inch Baltic Birch Plywood, I plan to rout parallel grooves approximately 2 inches apart.  When finished, I will paint the surface with high gloss off-while Awl grip.  This will be held in place with Teak or mahogany frames.

If you like the original, I think it would be easier to replace the vinyl than to clean it.

You're making a lot of progress!  Good luck.

Chris

Dear Fletch
White brittle fibers indicate asbestos.
Can be replaced with mineral wool.
Kind regards

Dear Jan-Holgar,

Your headliner looks very similar to what I plan to attempt. Looks beautiful!

Does any know how to remove the vinyl panels without damaging them?
