SWAN Anniversary in 2016. Anything happening??
Dear All,
I have been injecting this question into a number of threads as well as asking Nautor. Is there going to be a get together/party in Finland in 2016 to celebrate 50 years of Swan? Our boat, Storm Svale is in the US at the moment and we are gearing up for another crossing in 2015 in particular to make sure we are on this side of the pond of for a 2016 celebration.

Has anybody heard anything??? Are we as the association planning anything ---and one last question how do I get paragraph breaks in these messages when using a MAC.. I seem to have lost the touch.

Dear Mike,

as far as I know Nautor is celebrating the anniversary at the Porto Cervo Swan Cup.

Our S&S Swan Rendez-vous will be in 2015 and again (!) in 2017. I have some ideas for 2016 (on land), but too soon to talk!

Your message is perfect, but please let me know if I can help

Hi Matteo, <> My hope was to attend a celebration at the yard in Finland as it would be easier given our Baltic home base and it would be nice to take our lady back to her hatch site. This is why I wanted to know what Nautor was up to. If they are not going to do anything other than an extension of the Puerto Cervo activities then maybe we need to think about what to do. Puerto Cervo although a great location will not be suitable for many of us. It might be that we could consider a number of regional celebrations to occur on the same day. Clearly we should discuss this with Club Swan but to be honest I think our association probably represents the most coherent communicative group. For example when I asked Folks at Club Swan directly about this I did not even get a response. So what to do. <> 1) As I am getting no response from Nautor, could you on behalf of us ask them what they are planning.<> 2) If nothing from Nautor we could find some regional champions to coordinate a get together in their region on a specific day.... Summer Solstace or.... <> We have some regional get togethers now e.g Baltic Sea 38s. Or we could approach the Swan dealers network and get them in play. Hopefully we have some telecommunications wizards in the group who would link us up. <> I would imagine we would like to include the other Swan owners as well. <> To be honest I expect Club Swan or Nautor to be thinking the same way.... But who knows. <> Ramblings from Storm Svale

Dear Mike
The summer solstice would be nice, but the great day of celebration occurs in September close to the autumn equinox, not known if this is adhered to.
I think Matteo is well informed as usual.
Kind regards
Lars

Dear Lars,

Thats great! Do you know the exact date?

We could use that if Nautor is not going to do anything.. Do you have any ideas what or if Nautor is going to do anything special?

As always you are the man with the knowledge!!

Best wishes

Mike

Dear Mike and Lars,

I will find out about Nautor, even if this is quite difficult, as you pointed out.

Speaking about the S&S Swan Association, I suggest to organize a dinner to celebrate the anniversary.

Can I suggest New York or London?

We have two years to convince Lars to be part of the event…

Dear Matteo,

New York and London are good but to quote a wiser man than me...

If the mountain won't come to Muhammad then Muhammad must go to the mountain.

We could probably follow both approaches… regional get togethers with the boats and a dinner around the actual date.

Thoughts

Dear Mike and Matteo
The exact date is September 23 2016 as far as I know, and the equinox is September 22 that year.
I have no information, believe it will all be decided at the headquarters, and am sure that Matteo will find out when there is some information.
Kind regards
Lars

Hi Matteo,

Nice that you could get an answer!

Did they say when they would have an idea what they were going to do or give any hints....

All the best

Dear Mike,

no, they didn't even told me when they will start thinking about that.

I think we have to do whatever and whenever we want to do.

Dear Lars,

I had a very nice talk on the phone with Mike yesterday, and agree we should organize the Rendez-vous in Finland, suggest Pietarsaari of course, and the date sounds good (23/24 September)

I don't know what Nautor is going to do as they are organizing the Swan Cup in Sardinia a week or two before, but hope someway they will join the organization.

So, now, any ideas in order to start thinking about a schedule?

I would of course organize a dinner at the Yacht Club on Saturday night.

Looking forward to hearing from you

Dear Matteo
Thank you for the suggestion.
Believe that the yard will organize something locally.
A tentative program for S&S Swan owners could be guided visits to the old yard, the woodworking shop, old launching slip, new yard.
Visit to Yxpila Boat Yard could also be included.
It would be possible to sail to Pietarsaari for those feeling for it.
Kind regards
Lars

How exciting! Pietarsaari here we come... Already looking forward to this, and the idea of possibly being able to sail while there sounds marvelous! Great idea, and thanks to all already involved in making it happen. If we can be of any help from afar just let me know.

Hello Mike. Our (SAFA owners') home, city of Jyväskylä, is only 300 km from Pietarsaari/Nautor. We can help organise he session if needed, home language options (finnish, swedish) are ok.

Hi SAFA folks,

Looks like we have a number of events brewing. Some of the western Baltic owners are discussing a get together dates and details not sorted yet. We personally will be joining Matteo when this gets finalized as well as sailing to Finland probably in July. What are your thoughts on how to proceed. Are you guys located on the Baltic? When I googled your city it seems to be on a lake... Must be beautiful!!
Looking forward to your ideas

All the best

Our S&S 44 is now located in Las Palmas but I cannot say where in future 2016 ... On a big lake Päijänne (which is a great sweet water sailing environment!) I have a Finngulf 33 (a finnish yacht, too) where I sail from may to october - the lake is frozen in wintertime.
