Solution for stripped bolt inserts in my deck?
I'm re-bedding all of the deck fittings on my 411. As I've removed the bolts for the track of the inner forestay, I've noticed that about half of the inserts seem to be stripped. All but one of the bolts look good, so something has to be wrong with the inserts.

The question is, what do I do? The easy solution is to epoxy the bolts back in place so I have structural strength for the track. But that makes future removal nearly impossible. I could use a product called "Loctite", which keeps the bolts in place. But it doesn't provide any real strength against the bolt pulling out under load.

Any suggestions?

Don, 411/11

Dear Don
Suggest you look at a thread repair denoted Heli-Coil.
If the bolts are long enough you could put nuts on their lower end.
Kind regards
Lars

Thanks, Lars

I had forgotten about the hell-coil option. Through bolting might even be a better solution. I can get longer bolts.

Thanks for your help

Don
