Swan 47 - Webasto heating >> Baltic - one or two heaters <<

Dear Members,

I am upgrading / refitting my Swan 47 (1978) - one of the upgrades is air heating.

My main area of operation will be the Baltic, Norway and Scotland.

as per Webasto website one (1 ) Evo Top 5.5 should be able to manage , but it is at the limit

So I was thinking that I may need to have Two units :

Unit 1. Aft cabin , saloon and forepeak cabin

unit 2 ( booster).

in case of two units , do I connect to the same ducting or do I spilt it - for example:

unit 1 ( aft, saloon, forpeak)

and

unit 2  salon only .

what is your experience and recommendations?

Thanks

chris

Dear Chris
The Webasto selection information is confusing.
If you look at their simplified graphical representation, one Air Top 5.5 would be fine, but they also give more accurate capacity rating figures based on hull volume.
The S47 total hull volume is 56 m3, and with 200 W/m3 the required capacity would be 11.2 kW - twice the simplified requirement.
Suggest you ask Webasto which one refers.
You can easily improve the hull heat insulation by adding foam sheets on the topsides behind the gratings.
Kind regards
Lars
