Cutlass bearing stuck!

Dear Friends,

I am in the process of removing the cutlass bearing in the p-bracket, with the shaft in place.  It seems there is a bearing used with a brass housing that corroded with the stainless steel p-bracket. I have had a cutlass bearing remval tool made but it won't get loose. I am trying to avoid lifting the engine for removal of the shaft.
Is it possible to have the propellor shaft slide beside the skeg and rudder? Or are there other options?

Kind regards,

Jan 38/110

Dear Jan,

yes, it comes out aside the skeg/rudder, without any difficulty!

Dear Jan,

could you please post some photos here, which will be hopefully useful for our Members (I forgot to take some pictures when I did the same with mine, years ago!)?

Thanks!!!

Dear Friends,

Unfortunately it didn't work. The shaft is too long: it reached the skeg before the other end was out of the boat. I think Matteo's engine is longer and his shaft is shorter.

We succeeded however in removing the bearing by sawing and cutting it! Quite a job. But very happy now.

kind regards,
Jan
