Mainsheet arrangement.

My Swan 44 currently has a poorly executed mainsheet arrangement. Original track and car with a triple block on the boom and a triple with cam cleat on the car.

The 6:1 is just about workable, but sailing short handed it's awkward.

I know the original setup had a winch on the track facing forward, but again this is not good sailing short handed.

I'm considering a "German Mainsheet" setup by adding 2 small winches on the coamings either side and in from of the helm with twin lines running forward down the boom, down to blocks at the base of the mast and then aft either side.

Anyone tried it, or any other suggestions that they have found work well?
