Swan 57 Cutlass Hello fellow Swan owners! The yard last winter replaced a cutlass bearing at the same time as repalcing the engine . We have two bearings, one at the end of the stern tube and one in the p bracket (cutlass). On lift out we inspected that the cutlass is beconing consumed and worn at the aft end of the cutlass bearing only. The rest are fine. My suspiction is that the bearing was crushed slightly during isallation by the retaining grub screws as shown in the picture. Now when we pulled the shaft out of the stern tube bearing the shaft is out of align. For reference the P bracket is solid and there has been no instace where is has been compromised.
Has anyone else suffered the same issue and what material of cutlass bearing are people sucessfully using?
Many thanks ![]() cutlass wear ![]() misaligned shaft possibly due to distorted cutlass |

On Ravn 411-36 the 4 engine rubber mounts might be the problem. They might not be stiff enough, causing this misalignment of shaft through the strut. Guess important to do final alignment work when boat is in the water and check at different rpm`s. The Ravn has one cutlass bearing, at strut, and a more flexible system through sterntube. Guess also there is a fine line between the minimizing of vibration in the hull and sufficient robust rubber mounts for engine. On Ravn. need to go through this again, with a good, well experienced mechanic.
