Hi Colin, better DELRIN than teflon, as teflon's volume increase when in the salt water. Matteo |

I am not sure, but think Teflon can get a swelling of up to 10%, while Delrin (Originally Nautor used Celcon, which is a type of Delrin) should not get more than 2%. Consider that when replacing rudder bearing (I did not the first time...so I had to get the job re-done two years later!) Matteo |

I recently completed the overhaul of my Swan 43 rudder and used a fiber-reinforced plastic material that is machinable to custom size. I ordered this bearing from GGB Bearing http://www.garlockbearings.com. I used their GAR MAX series and it is working well. It has been dimensionally stable and I was able to machine the outside diameter for a press fit into the cast bronze shoe supporting the bottom of the rudder post. I will be posting this on the Swan 43 maintenance web soon. Regards, Hiro |
