You are doing a wonderful job! While you have the chainplates out consider having them electropolished. It involves a bath with some electricity, removes all the rust and passivates the surface so that it remaines bright for a very long time. It is not expensive. Most stainless steel fabricators have the equoment. Stanchions, pulpits and most stainless hardware is treated like that.

Thanks for the advise. Thing is hower, I just installed them again. And I can use the standard cover, so the steel is not visable!
