S&S Swan Rendez-vous 2011
29th June - 2nd July, Marciana Marina (Elba Island)The S&S Swan Association, founded in 2001 and with more than 400 Associates strong scattered over 5 continents, announces the 5th Biannual Rendezvous of Classic Swans. The magnificant sailing yachts designed by the gifted pencils of the New York studios of Sparkman & Stephens from 1966 to 1978, and built by the world renown Finnish skilled masters of Nautor’s Swan.
After a dicisively cold winter that found Owners as guests of the almost inaccessiblle New York Yacht club on the 24th of January, the S&S Swan Association in collaboration with our friends from the Sailing Club of Marciana Marina prepares for celebrating at Marciana Marina, the 10th Anniversary of the Association’s birth, and is organizing a Rendezvous that will be unforgettable.
Taking a glance at the list of participating Swans gives an idea of how international this Rendezvous is going to be, with yachts and crews coming from Italy, France, Spain, England, Finland and the United States. (member Teragram Swan 40 crossed the Atlantic so as to take part in the Rendezvous...).
Marciana Marina, this quaint little town on the island of Elba is preparing a great festival, with the Club’s dock being freed up to make room for the S&S Swans and their owners. And that during the four days of the Event will be able to challenge each other at sea with friendly races that will face off twin boats in real time (once again without the use of spinnaker poles).
35 are scheduled to participate, from the compact and speedy 37’ to the le-gendary 65’! (with lots of 47’s in the middle).
The height of the event is calendared for Saturday evening, with a grand party in the Bonanno Square where all crews are invited, and during which the most sought after trophy, the “Best Maintained S&S Swan” will be given. This trophy is traditionally given to the Classic Swan that has been maintained best throughout the course of it’s life to date, and is judged with the secret formula of an historic name in the Italian S&S Swan world, Pino Ferlini. This award is graciously offered by the famous marine artist Luca Ferron.
